Robotics is one of the most sought after career option having tremendous growth potential and ever increasing salary levels. In India itself Vistara airlines is working on their concept Robot called RADA and it is now in its second generation already. HDFC Bank is also trying a Robot for their branches. Robotics will be a great field for your child in coming years.
To make a career in Robotics following is what needs to be kept in mind:
Subjects in High School for Robotics as a Career:
- Mathematics ( Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, Calculus )
- Physics (Physics observe exemplary utilization in robotics, Circuits, Mechanics are the core)
Additional Subjects which one should consider taking in High School ( Some of them available in IB Schools )
- Computer Science & Programming
- Design Technology
In India, there are not many courses available at Bachelor level with Robotics as specialization, so it is suggested to take either of the two routes:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electronics
Once, your child has completed the Bachelors then there are some courses at Masters Level available in India for Robotics, and they are:
- The Centre for Robotics and Mechatronics at IIT-Kanpur offers a masters programme in Robotics Engineering.
- Jadhavpur University, Kolkata, offers M.E. Robotics.
- The University of Hyderabad offers M.Tech. In Artificial Intelligence and Robotics.
- University College of Engineering under Osmania University, Hyderabad, offers M.E. / M.Tech. In Automation and Robotics.
- M.S. University, Baroda, conducts a masters programme with specialisation in automation control and robotics.
- The Institute of Technology under the Banaras Hindu University conducts M.Tech. Production Engineering/ Industrial Management Engineering with Robotics and Automation as electives.
If you are looking to Study Abroad then almost all top ranked universities do offer courses with majors in Robotics or Mechnatronics both at UG & PG Level.
One can consider USA, Singapore, HK for studying Robotics in top universities like:
- MIT
- CalTech
- Georgia Tech
- UCLA
- UC Berkely
- CMU
- Princeton
- Cornell
- HKUST
- NUS
It is also suggested for High School Students to enroll in some online programs to study fundamentals of robotics/mechatronics so as to enable a much faster growth & learning curve.
